We never forget where we came from. In 1984, our parent company, Graffiti, started out with just one single-head embroidery machine at a tiny newsstand in Cleveland’s Terminal Tower. Soon after, the business expanded and moved down the street to 31st and Carnegie, where we, along with 60 other employees, work today. My parents found a niche for quality, domestic-made headwear – and they learned to perfect it.
Today, Graffiti manufactures headwear for private label wholesale accounts and produces up to 10,000 caps per week. As the second generation of a family business, I wanted to use everything my family has learned in the 35+ years in the factory. Except I wanted to do things a little differently and put our product on shelves. In 2017, our retail extension, Legend, was born.
It's all about the fit for us. We like to think we're experts in finding a hat for every head. With 8 cap profiles, we're able to offer a style for just about everyone, from the cap collector, to the anti-hat-wearer; from the tiny head to the big domes. It all starts with choosing and sourcing the right material, pairing it with the right closures, customizing the fit and adding details that are often overlooked, like hiding the embroidery with a funky inner lining.
The most rewarding part of what I do is cutting the fabric in the morning, choosing the logo and then watching it come to life as the day in the factory goes on. The real highlight is seeing people light up when they check out the caps in person and knowing we made this.
